Our legal justifications for collecting and using your personal data?

The law on the use of personal data is comprised of two main pieces of legislation, The Data Protection Act 1998 and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) that came into force on 25th May 2018.   Under this legislation the collecting, storing and use of personal data can only be justified for one of six legal reasons.

K-9 Angels will therefore only use your personal data if we have:

  1.  Asked you and have a record of your express and recent consent for us to do so. You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us at info@K-9angels.co.uk

Legitimate interest to do so in order to support our charitable purposes.  Such purposes include administering and maintaining a record of your support so as to ensure that your wishes are fulfilled.  Such information may be collected in a number of ways, including but not limited to, from a donation for an appeal, general fund raising or as part of a contract where you have agreed to adopt/rehome a dog through us.  We will only hold the information for as long as you remain a supporter or in the case of adoption/rehoming the life of the dog.    Our use will not harm any of your rights and interests as an individual.

Or

  1. A contract with you that we can only fulfil by using your personal information, for example to send you an item you have ordered via our website or social media.

Or

  1. A legal obligation to use or disclose information about you., e.g. we are required by law to keep records of donations given to us with Gift Aid for 4 years; and we are compelled to disclose information relating to incidents involving dangerous dogs for insurance purposes under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Who do we share your personal data with?

K-9 Angels will not rent, swap or sell your personal data to other organisations for them to use in their own marketing activities.

In extreme situations, such as an accident or medical emergency, we may share your personal details with the emergency services (including vets) if it is of “vital interest” for the preservation of life (yours, another person’s or a dog you have adopted/rehomed from us) for us to do so.  After the emergency, we will always try to inform you about how we had to use your information in that extreme situation.
